The Minyan Continues to Grow
Since January 2006, the Minyan has been an official organization within Leisure World, with officers and bylaws. With the legal assistance of Elli Schorr living with his family in Israel, we have now become a non-profit organization. As an organization, we are also allowed use of a room in Club House II for our meetings. Club House II is undergoing renovation, so G-d willing, we should be able to start in November. The Minyan, along with all organizations, has been invited to participate and celebrate Leisure World's 40th anniversary on Thursday, September 21. We are very excited and will be having a table with information about the Minyan. We look forward to meeting you there. Leisure World residents and families in the surrounding communities and even out of state have been very generous supporting our organization. We now have our own Sefer Torah, a donation of Rabbi Tuvia Grauman and family. Rabbi Raphael Malka of Silver Spring, who repaired the Torah, described it as a ..."very beautiful 80-100 year old Torah from White Russia...". Other donations in memory of family members include Art Scroll Chumashim and Siddurim. We even have an Aron to house the Torah, which is being kept at Club House II and may be used for the Yomim Tovim. All residents, regardless of religious background, are invited to attend and participate. The Minyan is currently looking for residents wishing to be active or make charitable contributions. Please contact Kit Kirshenbaum, Vantage West, 301-598-0883.

New News - 2008! We're moving forward!
As of 2008, the Minyan had not yet established itself as weekly or even monthly davening due to the lack a quorum, despite a strong interest in having the Minyan begin. Fortunately, in August 2008, Arnold and Vivian Kirshenbaum met with Rabbi Yitchak Gurary, Director of Chabad Torah Center of Rockville, and his wife Rivka. Rabbi Gurary had heard of the Minyan and was very interested in having orthodox davening established at Leisure World and the surrounding community. Rabbi Gurary is currently involved with Leisure World residents, and mentioned offering Torah and learning classes.
So, we are now excited at the prospect that Chabad of Rockville, under Rabbi Gurary's direction, will help to build and expand our efforts, and make the Minyan organization a more active part of the Jewish Residents of Leisure World. Keep you posted.
L'Shana Tova- 5769!
Happy New Year to everyone and may
this year bring good health, peace and prosperity.
